Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is the cost of a Tummy Tuck? Before undertaking any surgical procedure it is critical that patients understand the cost involved. The cost of an abdominoplasty depends on the details of the surgery, which will vary from patient to patient. Plastic Surgery of the Face & Body works with two financing companies to assist you in getting the credit you need to finance your surgery or procedure. These include Care Credit and Alphaeon. Learn about these options by visiting our Patient Resources page.

What will the recovery look like? After surgery, compression garments are worn and a temporary tube may be inserted under the skin to drain excess fluid from the surgical site. Recovery time ranges from two weeks to a few months. You should limit strenuous activities for at least six weeks, and may need to take off from work for up to a month. Your doctor will give you specific instructions for your individual recovery. Following these instructions can help speed up your recovery and reduce the risk of any post-surgery complications.

What results can I expect to see?A tummy tuck leaves patients with a flatter, more toned abdominal area that fits the natural contours of your body. It can improve a patient’s appearance and confidence by helping them look and feel younger and slimmer. The results of this procedure are visible right away and will continue to improve. With a balanced diet and regular exercise, results are long-lasting. Scars will fade with time, leaving your stomach sleeker and more defined than ever before. A tummy tuck will leave a scar spanning the lower abdomen from hip to hip. We are very careful to make the incision low enough for even a bikini to conceal the scar.

What is the Tummy Tuck procedure like?Tummy tucks take approximately two to five hours and are performed under general anesthesia. This procedure may be performed on an in-patient or outpatient basis, depending on the complexity of your surgery and your doctor’s recommendation. Dr. Nagy will make two incisions: one from hipbone to hipbone close to the pubic area, and another around the navel. They will separate the skin from the abdominal muscles, which are then pulled together and stitched into place for a firmer abdomen and narrower waist. The skin flap is then stretched down and over the newly tightened muscles, excess skin is removed, and the navel is reattached in a natural position. Finally, Dr. Nagy will close the incisions and apply sterile surgical dressings over the sutured areas.

Who are the best candidates for a Tummy Tuck? The best candidates for a tummy tuck are in good physical condition with pockets of fat or loose skin that haven’t responded well to traditional diet and exercise. This procedure can also benefit older, slightly obese people whose skin has lost some of its elasticity. Tummy tucks can also be useful for women with stretched skin and muscles from pregnancy. Results from the tummy tuck procedure will likely diminish if women continue to bear children, so we advise patients who plan to become pregnant to consider postponing this procedure until they are done having children. Our office offers the Mommy Makeover for women seeking to retain their youthful firmness prior to their pregnancy We also encourage patients who intend to lose a lot of weight to wait before undergoing the procedure, since skin in the abdominal area typically loosens after substantial weight loss.

What is a consultation like?We provide customized treatments for optimal cosmetic results. We take the time during every pre-operative consultation to learn what patients want to achieve from a tummy tuck both for their bodies and for their self-confidence. By listening to what patients have to say and closely examining them rather than performing a one-size-fits-all procedure on every person, we provide patients with a completely customized treatment that takes into account their specific goal. As an experienced abdominoplasty surgeon, Dr. Nagy will meet with you in his Wall Township office to discuss all options and pricing.

What are the risks of a Tummy Tuck?Though rare, post-operative complications from any surgical procedure are possible. They may include infection, blood clots, and poor healing, which may require further surgery. Patients who have had previous abdominal surgery should know that their old scars could be raised, stretched or generally more noticeable after the tummy tuck procedure. A scar revision procedure after a tummy tuck can help minimize the appearance of unsightly scars. Contact us today to schedule a tummy tuck consultation and find out if you can benefit from this effective procedure.

What can I expect during recovery? You may have a splint and/or some sort of bandage on your nose, depending on how the procedure was performed. Patients may have different degrees of swelling and nose ache for about a week. You can expect some swelling that may come and go during the initial healing process, but may continue longer, especially in the morning. You will be given instructions about how to care for the nose, any medications you may need to take, and any concerns that may arise post-procedure. Of course, at any time if you feel uncertain about any post-surgical symptom, please call the office right away. We are here to ensure you have a smooth recovery.

Rhinoplasty can have a significant impact on a patient's self-confidence in several ways:Improved Appearance - For many people, the primary motivation for undergoing rhinoplasty is to enhance their facial harmony and aesthetics. When the nose is reshaped or resized to better fit the proportions of the face, it can lead to a more pleasing overall appearance. This improvement can boost self-esteem and confidence, as individuals may feel more comfortable and satisfied with their facial features. Correction of Nasal Imperfections - Some individuals may have specific nasal features that they feel self-conscious about, such as a prominent hump, a bulbous tip, asymmetry, or a deviated septum causing breathing difficulties. Rhinoplasty can address these imperfections, providing a more balanced and symmetrical nose that aligns with the patient's ideal image. This correction can alleviate feelings of insecurity and improve self-confidence. Psychological Benefits - Beyond physical changes, the psychological impact of rhinoplasty can be profound. Feeling more confident in one's appearance can translate into improved self-image and self-esteem in various aspects of life, including social interactions, professional settings, and personal relationships. Patients may experience reduced anxiety about their appearance and feel more empowered to pursue opportunities they may have previously avoided due to insecurities about their nose. Functional Improvements - In cases where rhinoplasty is performed to correct breathing problems or functional issues, such as a deviated septum or nasal obstruction, the procedure can lead to significant improvements in breathing quality. Better nasal function can enhance overall well-being and comfort, contributing positively to a patient's self-confidence and quality of life. Emotional Satisfaction - Patients often report feeling more satisfied with their appearance and more at ease in social situations following successful rhinoplasty. This emotional satisfaction can reinforce their sense of self-worth and confidence, contributing to a positive self-perception.

Am I a good candidate for a rhinoplasty? The ideal candidate will be a non-smoker who is physically healthy. Facial growth should be complete. You should have realistic goals and expectations about how a rhinoplasty can improve your appearance.

What happens during my consultation for a rhinoplasty?During your consultation at Plastic Surgery of the Face and Body, be prepared to discuss your aesthetic goals and expectations you have from your procedure. A medical and surgical history will be collected. The surgeon will discuss any options you may have regarding the procedure, risk factors and potential outcomes. Photographs and facial measurements may be taken as well. This is also the best time to ask the surgeon questions you may have regarding any aspect of the surgery. We want all our patients to feel comfortable and have an open dialogue with their surgeon regarding any procedure they are considering at our practice. We understand there is often some anxiety that comes along with undergoing a procedure. We will do our best to minimize that feeling.
-
Does insurance cover a revision rhinoplasty?Insurance companies are more inclined to cover revision rhinoplasty if the procedure is considered medically necessary rather than for cosmetic reasons. If the revision surgery is required to address functional issues such as breathing difficulties or nasal obstruction, then medical necessity can be established- a portion of the procedure may be covered. It can vary with different insurance companies.
-
Why is revision rhinoplasty typically more complex than primary rhinoplasty?Revisional rhinoplasty is typically more complex than primary rhinoplasty because of factors like scar tissue, changes in anatomy from the previous surgery, and potentially compromised structural support of the nose. This surgery requires a skilled surgeon to address the intricate details and challenges involved. Ultimately, the decision to a undergo revision rhinoplasty is a personal one. Choosing a plastic surgeon who has established a good connection with you and earned your trust will provide the best chance for a successful outcome.
-
Who is a candidate for revision rhinoplasty?Patients who seek a revision rhinoplasty are typically those who experience dissatisfaction with the outcome of their first rhinoplasty. If you are unhappy with your initial result, you may want a revision.
-
Why might patients seek revision rhinoplasty surgery?Patients may seek this surgery for various reasons, including: 1. Aesthetic Concerns: The initial rhinoplasty may not have achieved the desired appearance or may have resulted in asymmetry, irregularities, or disproportion. 2. Functional Issues: The first surgery might have led to breathing difficulties or other functional problems with the nose. 3. Healing Complications: Issues like excessive scar tissue, infection, or poor healing can necessitate a revision. 4. Structural Problems: Problems such as a collapsed nasal bridge or nostrils might need correction.
-
Is revision rhinoplasty an easier recovery? The recovery from a secondary rhinoplasty really depends on the extent of the surgery performed to fix the issue from the original surgery. For most patients, recovery is similar to their primary rhinoplasty. Post-operative limitations are basically the same as the first surgery.
-
When is the best time to get a revision rhinoplasty? There's no “official” rule for how much time has to go by after you've healed before undergoing a second rhinoplasty, but you will need to wait for all of that swelling and bruising to subside. It typically takes around 12 months for post-operative swelling to resolve from the first surgery.
