MICRONEEDLING with SkinPen-Reclaim your complexion

Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) involves using fine needles to create hundreds of tiny, invisible puncture wounds in the top layer of skin. Plastic Surgery of the Face & Body in Wall, NJ utilizes the SkinPen by Bellus Medical to provide our patients with the best technology available to perform microneedling. SkinPen is the first FDA-cleared microneedling device available through skincare professionals only. SkinPen is designed to stimulate your skin’s natural ability to produce new collagen and elastin, resulting in healthier, more youthful skin. Microneedling can be used to improve the appearance acne scars, hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, and skin texture, as well as fine lines and wrinkles. The repair process of your skin is accelerated through the creation of microscopic channels, which also allow products to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin resulting in better product outcomes.

The SkinPen uses precisely spaced micro-needles in a small cartridge to create invisible, vertical, micro-perforations into the epidermis and the top layer of the dermis. As a result, the skin shifts its natural repair mechanism into high gear and starts producing collagen and elastin to repair these micro-perforations. The self-repairing property of the skin is a 100% natural form of skin renewal from the inside out.

The concept of microneedling has been around for quite some time, and is based upon the skin’s ability to naturally repair itself when injured. Microneedling allows for controlled stimulation of the skin’s self-repair process by creating precise, micro-injuries in the skin, which automatically trigger new collagen synthesis without causing scar tissue formation.

What are the benefits of microneedling?

There are numerous benefits received from a microneedling treatment. New collagen production can reverse the effects of sun damage, improve the appearance of acne scars, stretch marks, and hyper-pigmentation as well as enhance the overall appearance of aging skin by reducing the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles.

Who is a candidate?

One of the most exciting things about microneedling is that it can be used on all types of skin and can be used to address a wide range of problems such as acne scars, stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles.

What areas of the body can I treat?

SkinPen can be used on many parts of the body, including the face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.

What are the benefits of using SkinPen?

  • First FDA-cleared microneedling device
  • Able to use on all skin types, light to dark
  • Quick, 30 minute treatments in most cases
  • A cost-effective approach for skin rejuvenation

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure typically takes about 30 minutes depending on the size of the area treated and the number of areas to be treated. Most patients will see results in as few as three treatments.

Will SkinPen work for me?

Unlike most alternatives, SkinPen has been clinically shown to be effective for women and men with skin
ranging from light to very dark. Likewise, SkinPen’s mechanical process is less abrasive than harsh
chemical peels. In addition, when you properly space treatments that are overseen by a physician,
the procedures can be administered year-round.

What is the downtime?

The total healing time depends on the severity of the damaged skin and the depth of repair process required. On average, patients have some slight redness/pinkness (like mild sunburn) for 2-4 days. Some patients may heal completely in 24 hours.

Is the SkinPen safe?

Yes, by design SkinPen’s patent-pending – and single-use, sterile needle cartridge is built with safety in mind. SkinPen is also surrounded by a proprietary BioSheath that acts as a barrier to prevent cross contamination between procedures. Safety measures like these are part of the reason that SkinPen is the first microneedling device that is cleared by the FDA.

When can I expect to see results?

Many patients notice healthier looking skin immediately. However, the natural repair process of your own skin continues to progress over the course of several weeks. Keep in mind dermal collagen remodeling takes place over time it is not realistic to expect damage that has occurred over an extensive period of time to disappear immediately. You may not see the final result until up to 3-6 months following your final session.

How many treatments are recommended?

The number of treatments required will be determined by each individual’s treatment goals and the health of your skin. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 4 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart. For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars it is recommended to receive 6-8 sessions at 3-6 week intervals.

We also recommend developing a maintenance plan to help maintain the glow and rejuvenating effects of your personalized microneedling treatments.

Is there anyone who should not get a microneedling treatment?

Use of microneedling is contraindicated for patients with: A history of keloid scars, scleroderma, collagen vascular diseases or cardiac abnormalities; a hemorrhagic disorder or hemostatic dysfunction; or an active bacterial or fungal infection.

Can I wear make-up immediately following a procedure?

Typically, patients can resume their normal makeup and skin care regimen 2-3 days following their treatment. Some post procedure make-up can be used immediately post treatment. Oxygenetix is safe to use. As this may vary based on the area and type of treatment performed, one of our Clinical Specialists can assist you in finding the coverage needed to help you resume your normal day.

Implant Recall 2019

As reported in the news, textured breast implants have been associated with a rare type of lymphoma (cancer of the immune system) called Breast Implant Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). This lymphoma is so rare that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not recommend that textured implants be removed or replaced in those without symptoms of BIA-ALCL.
