Dr. Nagy has been a proud supporter of the American Cancer Society since 2007, when he began performing “pro bono” breast cancer reconstructions. From then, his involvement in improving the lives of cancer patients has only grown. Becoming a member of the Corporate Leadership Council in 2009, he received several recognitions within the same year such as, “Volunteer of the Year” in the Jersey Shore Region and “New Jersey Healthcare Heroin NJBiz in which he was nominated by the American Cancer Society. In addition, Dr. Nagy has been a “Flagship Sponsor for making strides against Breast Cancer” in 2010, 2011, and 2012. In 2011 he joined the Board of Advisors in the Jersey Shore Region and continues to be an active participant hoping to uphold, and improve even more, his relationship with the American Cancer Society.

Nomination for NJBIZ Healthcare Heroes

“Dr. Michael Nagy is a distinguished and highly regarded doctor in the Ocean/Monmouth County area. He possesses licenses form Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as accolades, certificates and honors that are a testament to the expertise of his profession. However, the reason I have chosen to nominate him for the volunteer/physician of the year has little to do with all that. It has more to do with something that cannot be learned from a book, college or university. It is something that comes from inside one’s self. Some of which include: compassion, selflessness, giving back. and making a positive difference in a person’s life. Doing all these things while at the same time remaining humble and willing to serve in any capacity to get to the positive result.

I have had the privlege of working with Dr. Michael Nagy through my position as Corporate Relations Director for the American Caner Society, Jersey Shore Region. Dr. Nagy currently serves on the Ocean County Corporate Leadership Council. The mission for this council is to reach out to our community and proivide awareness in the way of educational programs to teach residents the importance of early detection and prevention, how to live a healthier life, build a healthier work place and ultimately eliminate cancer as a major health issue.

Since joining the council Dr. Nagy has worked tirelessly to support these efforts. Whenever needed he volunteers to speak at many clubs, worksites and health programs to spread the word about skin and breast cancer. He takes time out of his very busy schedule to speak to a group of employees at a local bank on the importance of mammography. He shares treatment options to make women feel whole again through breast reconstruction after a mastectomy. He does this with compassion and true concern for the individual.

When patients come in to our office and say they do not have insurance but have a concern about a suspicious mole or birthmark, I call Dr. Nagy and his response is always the same. Send them over. I have seen the sadness in his face when he talks of a bad week; which he equates to multiple cancer diagnoses.

He has chosen to be a part of the fight against this dreaded disease we call cancer and he fights back relentlessly. He has never told me no to any request on his time. Last year he rallied his whole office to join the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk. He was a team captain and reached out to colleagues, friends and family to raise thousands of dollars in his fight. He had shirts made and walked with his team on a very blustery day in October.

Dr. Michael Nagy is the physician you would want on your side in the battle against cancer. Please consider him for this honor, he is not only a very special doctor, he is a very special person.”
