KYBELLA™

KYBELLA™ is an exciting new procedure that has made it possible to non-invasively treat submental fat in certain patients without the need for surgery. KYBELLA™ (deoxycholic acid) injection is the first and only FDA-approved nonsurgical treatment that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness, sometimes referred to as “double chin.” Accumulation of excess fat tissue in the submental area can cause the appearance of a double chin. This can make the chin poorly defined and adversely impact the overall facial aesthetics. Until now only liposuction cosmetic surgery was a viable solution to this condition. However, the introduction of KYBELLA non-surgical double chin reduction treatment has introduced a new alternative.

What is KYBELLA™? How Does KYBELLA™ Work?

KYBELLA™ is a refined version of a substance called deoxycholic acid, which is naturally produced by your body. Deoxycholic acid’s primary role is assisting with fat absorption. It destroys fat cells wherever it is injected, causing them to be absorbed by the body. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA™ causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. This makes KYBELLA™ an innovative and ideal new way for patients to gain some of the benefits of liposuction for a double chin without surgery. Prior to approval in May of 2015 by the Food and Drug Administration, KYBELLA™ was the subject of medical trials that included more than 1,000 individuals. The results showed that eight out of ten people who received KYBELLA™ had a loss of chin fat.

Dr. Nagy is the best at what he does! He has a wonderful bedside manner and was extremely awesome with all of my questions. A lot of individuals who struggle with double chins avoid liposuction for their problem because they worry about the costs, downtime, and invasiveness. Who Is a Good Candidate for KYBELLA™ Treatment?

The KYBELLA™ Procedure

Before beginning treatment, Dr. Nagy will examine the area under and around your chin to see if KYBELLA™ is right for you. He will then prescribe a treatment strategy for you based on the amount of fat beneath your chin and your cosmetic goals.

During each KYBELLA™ treatment, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin. The number of injections needed will be determined by the amount of fat under your chin that has accumulated. It will take roughly 15 to 20 minutes to complete the procedure.

How Many Treatments are Required? What Should I Expect?

The number of injections required depends on the needs and goals of each patient. You and your doctor will design a customized treatment plan to help you improve your chin profile. Many patients experience visible contouring of their chin profile in two to four treatment sessions spaced at least one month apart on average. Once the desired aesthetic response is achieved with KYBELLA™, re-treatment is not expected.

What Happens During the Recovery After KYBELLA™ Procedure?

After KYBELLA™ treatment, the treated area is expected to manifest swelling, redness, and numbness. Moderate discomfort will also be present for a week or two, but most patients are able to resume their normal routine the next day. Please tell Dr. Nagy as soon as possible if you start having problems with your face, especially at the injection site.

What Results to Expect After KYBELLA™ Procedure?

KYBELLA™ has a long-lasting impact. This is due to the capacity of deoxycholic acid to break down and eliminate many of the accumulated fats that result in your double chin. After 12 weeks you will see the optimal results of KYBELLA™.
