KYBELLA™

KYBELLA™ is an exciting new procedure that has made it possible to non-invasively treat submental fat in certain patients without the need for surgery. KYBELLA™ (deoxycholic acid) injection is the first and only FDA-approved nonsurgical treatment that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness, sometimes referred to as “double chin”. Accumulation of excess fat tissue in the submental area can cause the appearance of a double chin. This can make the chin poorly defined and adversely impact the overall facial aesthetics. Until now only liposuction cosmetic surgery was a viable solution to this condition. However, the introduction of KYBELLA non-surgical double chin reduction treatment has introduced a new alternative.

What is KYBELLA™? How Does KYBELLA™ Work?

KYBELLA™ is a refined version of a substance called deoxycholic acid, which is naturally produced by your body. Deoxycholic acid’s primary role is assisting with fat absorption. It destroys fat cells wherever it is injected, causing them to be absorbed by the body. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA™ causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. This makes KYBELLA™ an innovative and ideal new way for patients to gain some of the benefits of liposuction for a double chin without surgery. Prior to approval in May of 2015 by the Food and Drug Administration, KYBELLA™ was the subject of medical trials that included more than 1,000 individuals. The results showed that eight out of ten people who received KYBELLA™ had a loss of chin fat.

Why Choose KYBELLA™?

Most people who have a double chin feel self-conscious about the fullness. To make matters worse, extra fat in this region may not go away with diet and exercise. A lot of individuals who struggle with double chins avoid liposuction for their problem because they worry about the costs, downtime, and invasiveness. Fortunately, KYBELLA™ offers a cutting-edge new way to solve double chins without these obstacles.

How Many Treatments are Required? What Should I Expect?

The number of injections required depends on the needs and goals of each patient. You and your doctor will design a customized treatment plan to help you improve your chin profile. Many patients experience visible contouring of their chin profile in two to four treatment sessions spaced at least one month apart on average. Once the desired aesthetic response is achieved with KYBELLA™, retreatment is not expected.

Plastic Surgery of the Face & Body is proud to be one of the first practices in the area to offer this exciting new treatment option for a “double chin” to our patients.

Implant Recall 2019

As reported in the news, textured breast implants have been associated with a rare type of lymphoma (cancer of the immune system) called Breast Implant Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). This lymphoma is so rare that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not recommend that textured implants be removed or replaced in those without symptoms of BIA-ALCL.
